Mazda — CSR Report 2023

My Role

Senior Design Leader, evolving Mazda’s CSR visual system year over year, ensuring continuity, accessibility, and cultural integrity across print and digital touchpoints.

Objective

To deepen connection with the Mazda brand by balancing tradition and forward-thinking design, while ensuring accessibility and inclusivity were embedded into every design decision.

The report needed to feel familiar yet progressive, reinforcing trust while signaling ongoing evolution.

Design Concept

A greener way forward.

Strategic Context

Mazda’s 2022 sustainability report established a strong, human-centric visual foundation. In 2023, the challenge was to evolve the system subtly, maintaining consistency while introducing refinements that reflected growth and renewed focus.

The design expanded the natural color palette, introduced nuanced typographic personalization, and reinforced a narrative that connects each initiative to Mazda’s broader vision for a better, more sustainable world.

Design Rationale

A refined palette of earthy greens and soothing blues, paired with imagery of Mazda vehicles immersed in natural landscapes, illustrated harmony between innovation and environment. The visual language positioned Mazda not as an observer of sustainability, but as an active participant in protecting and inspiring connection with nature.

Cultural Expression: Origami

Mazda’s cultural heritage is deeply tied to the art of origami, symbolizing precision, intention, and transformation.

To bring this to life, an interactive origami tear-away insert was designed as part of the report. The piece conveyed the theme “Partnership and Hope for the Future,” symbolizing the unfolding of Mazda’s vision and the collective effort required to achieve meaningful progress.
